Ultraviolet: een niet waarneembare intense kleur

Binnen het kleurenspectrum ligt ultraviolet licht naast paars (violet) vandaar de naam. Maar in tegenstelling tot alle andere kleuren van het kleurenspectrum is ultraviolet licht niet waarneembaar met het menselijke oog. Met blacklights kunnen we het wel zien en dan zie je een instens paarsblauwe kleur die licht lijkt te geven.

Bijen zijn wel in staat om ultraviolet licht te zien en daardoor zien zij bloemen die voor de mens onaantrekkelijk zijn wél aantrekkelijk.

In het kunstwerkje Ultraviolet heb ik helder ultramarijnblauw en violet gecombineerd en het front voorzien van een parelmoer toplaag, waardoor ook dit werk lijkt te stralen alsof er een blacklight op staat.

Ultraviolet is zowel horizontaal als vertikaal op te hangen.

Ultraviolet: an imperceptibly intense colour

Within the colour spectrum, ultraviolet light is next to purple (violet) hence its name. But unlike all the other colours of the colour spectrum, ultraviolet light is imperceptible to the human eye. With blacklights, however, we can see it and then you see an instens purple-blue colour that seems to give off light.

However, bees are able to see ultraviolet light and therefore see flowers that are unattractive to humans.

In the artwork Ultraviolet, I combined bright ultramarine blue and violet and coated the front with a pearly top layer, making this work, too, seem to glow as if it had a blacklight on it.

Ultraviolet can be hung horizontally or vertically.
